Single Storey Rear Extension

Project Aims
The brief for this project was to design a single-storey extension to a modern detached-attached property in Wilford, Nottingham.
The client required a full-width rear extension with the existing rear wall opened up to give a large open-plan format.
To the rear, large format glazed doors were required to maximise light and connection to the garden spaces.
Project Outcomes
The rear wall was slightly set back to express the existing garages on either side.
A feature circular column was incorporated to break up the large span due to removing the existing rear wall.
Two sets of 3m wide 3-pane bi-fold doors were designed for the new rear wall to open to the rear garden.
A vaulted ceiling was specified with four velux windows coordinated and positioned to give symmetry over the bi-fold doors.
DJS designed all aspects of the extension, including the required beam calculations, and obtained Planning and Building Regulation Approval.
